Fellowship
Sondown—Sondown is the fellowship activity for Sunday evenings between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Its elements typically include: A fun activity, a musical component, a meal, and a devotional. Sondown provides the youth with opportunities for outreach to their peers in a fun and engaging environment.
Luau—This is the first event of the year, and the first event to which rising 7th graders are invited. It is intended to purely be a fun event in a safe environment at a local pool. The evening is chocked full of pool games, food, a local DJ, and great, great fun!
11th/12th Grade “Getaways”—Everyone knows that 11th and 12th Graders are beginning to focus on life after high school. Because of this, it may be difficult for a church to keep their attention, unless it is able to provide some “getaway” opportunities specific to this age group. WFBC does two events for teens in this age group. A ski trip to the mountains is usually scheduled in January or February. A fall getaway, such as a trip to the coast or possibly a whitewater rafting trip, is usually scheduled in October or November.
High School Christmas Socials—Christmas socials are an opportunity for bonding around the Christmas season. These events are held in a host home and usually involve some kind of “wacky gift exchange.”
Lock—Out—The Lock-Out is an all-night party that usually has the youth running all over Raleigh and surrounding parts, taking in hockey games, a comedy club, inflatable climbing thingies, food, bowling, broom-ball on ice, etc. Seriously, get some rest BEFORE this event, because we will wear you out! This event usually takes place in the winter months.
Mother/Daughter and Father/Son Weekends/Conferences—Everyone’s lives are overscheduled these days. Often times even the most organized of families do not plan any “get away” time with their youth. A WFBC Getaway Weekend is a scheduled activity that encourages moms and dads to get away with their sons and daughters for a fun weekend with other families. These weekends are usually scheduled in the spring time just prior to the end of school. They may take the form of a whitewater rafting trip for the boys, or possibly a weekend of pampering at the beach for the girls.
For more information about any of these fellowship opportunities, contact Minister of Youth and Missions, Les Burleson.
